The D2 is a geometry that enables positive displacement compression with 100% rotary motion. The results are an ultra-efficient pump, compressor, or expander for use in many applications. With as few as three moving parts the D2 could be the way we move liquids or gas in the future.
Development Milestones
Disrupting electric and fuel cell vehicle markets
HRB
The D2 hydrogen recirculation blower (HRB), recirculates hydrogen in fuel cell applications. The D2 design enables effective sealing without needing to manufacture precision parts.
Applications
The HRB can be used in the growing and exciting fuel cell market. Key market subsets include trucking, marine, and aviation. HRB development also progresses the D2 as a compressor for other applications, enabling markets like compressed air supply and superchargers in the future.
Coolant Pump
The D2 can also be configured as a pump. GAT is currently developing a coolant pump for fuel cell vehicles which will lead to development of pumps for other applications. The D2 coolant pump enables high flow rates with low turbulence, leading to high efficiency.
Applications
Outside of the Fuel cell market the D2 can be used for electric vehicle cooling and more additional pump applications for water transfer, fire pumps, and other end uses.
The GAT D2 Piston Turbine provides the opportunity to enable the next generation of fuel cells through increased pump and compressor efficiency.
